Registered Dietitian

The term ‘medical nutrition therapy’ refers to the approach of treating a medical condition, or symptoms related to medical conditions via a specifically tailored diet which is based on a client’s medical, psychosocial and dietary history.

A Registered Dietitian may administer medical nutrition therapy for a client with the goal of reducing the risk of developing complications of pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or obesity or, to lessen the impact of existing conditions such as high cholesterol through dietary manipulation.

Registered Dietitians are regulated health professionals and are members of the College of Dietitians of Ontario.  A referral is not required to see a Registered Dietitian although may be required for coverage via extended benefits from private insurance providers.
