Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Pelvic health physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of conditions involving the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor consists of muscles, ligaments, nerves, and connective tissue, and plays an integral role in supporting our pelvic organs. It is also a key component of the “inner core”. Like other areas of the body, when components of the pelvic floor are not working as they should, dysfunction may result.

Pelvic floor dysfunction can result in different conditions in both women and men including:

• Urinary or bowel incontinence
• Urinary or bowel urgency and/or frequency
• Nocturia (repeatedly waking at night to urinate)
• Pelvic organ prolapse
• Chronic/unexplained low back, hip or pelvic pain
• Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle, pubic or low
back pain
• Vaginismus/vulvodynia (spasm or pain with intercourse or tampon insertion)
• Dysparneuria (difficulty/pain during intercourse)
• Interstitial Cystitis
• Endometriosis
• Chronic Prostatitis
